  • ​​Where is the Machine Shop?

The Machine Shop is located in Bulding S&E 1 Room 143. (Location)

  • ​​Can I use the Machine Shop to complete a club project?

Anyone who wants to use the Machine Shop can schedule a slot to work on their own project.

  • Do I need special training first?

No, while hands on making experience is helpful, people of all skill levels are welcome. On your first visit to the Machine Shop, you will recieve any supplemental training you require as deteremined by the Machine Shop Staff. 

  • I’m not in the School of Engineering, but I need to manufacture a part for my research group. Can I still use the Machine Shop facility?

The Manual Machine Shop is open to ALL students, staff and faculty. 

  • Do you have 3D printing service?

No, 3D Printing services are located in SRE-101

  • Does the Machine Shop supply material for students?

No, we do not supply material.

  • Can I store my material in the Machine Shop?

Ask our staff members to see if we have space for your material.

  • Do I have to bring my own cutters/tooling?

Only if your project requires tooling that we do not currently have. Email us at soe-machineshop@ucmerced.edu if you are unsure. 

  • What software does the Machine Shop have available?

We use Fusion 360 and can handle any solid model file types. No mesh files (.stl) please.
